KRISTY DAHMS, M.A., REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Approach

I believe it is a profound privilege to sit alongside someone and witness their pain, struggles, and joys. From an early age, I felt drawn to helping and healing roles, and my passion lies in supporting individuals as they move toward hope, health, and healing.

We all need support from time to time. I’m encouraged by the progress we’ve made in breaking down the stigma around mental health care, and I hope that seeking support for life’s stressors and challenges continues to be seen as a vital part of overall well-being.

In my practice, I strive to offer down-to-earth, compassionate, and skillful care to those open to looking inward (self), outward (environment), and in-between (relationships).

Brené Brown wisely says, “Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.”

As a therapist, I support you in developing or reclaiming your sense of wellness. We set meaningful goals together, engage in collaborative dialogue, and tailor an approach that best fits your needs. Along the way, we identify the inner strengths and resources that can bring insight, healing, and transformation.

Our therapeutic conversations involve building self-awareness, processing past and present wounds, and developing coping skills. Through this work, you may gain insights into your beliefs, thoughts, emotions, memories, behaviours, communication patterns, and relationships.

Wherever you are on your journey, I look forward to walking alongside you.

Education and Experience

Born and raised in the Ottawa Valley, this is the place that I love! I have always been passionate about serving our communities and supporting individuals on their journey toward well-being. I earned my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in 2011 and have since dedicated my career to providing quality mental health care.

With experience working in health agencies, school boards, and charitable organizations, I have had the privilege of serving both youth and adults through programming and direct support. My commitment to fostering resilience and growth has been at the heart of my work, whether in community initiatives or one-on-one counseling.

In my practice, I integrate evidence-based therapies to support individuals in navigating life’s challenges, healing from past experiences, and developing skills for lasting well-being. Every person’s journey is unique, so I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs, using: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I look forward to working with you and supporting you in achieving your goals.
